"And every firstborn male in the land of Egypt will die, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne to the firstborn of the servant girl who is behind the millstones, as well as every firstborn of the livestock."
Exodus 11:5
God doesn't mess around. He doesn't do anything half way. He's a vengeful God, and he's giving Egypt an eye for an eye. Several chapters ago, Pharaoh had ordered the death of every male Israelite child. Now God has ordered the death of every firstborn Egyptian. The difference? God actually has the power to go through with it, no matter how hard the Egyptians try to hide their children. Also, God has given this order out of righteous anger, as punishment, whereas Pharaoh had given his orders out of fear that Israel would overtake his nation.
It's amazing how our actions always come back to us. If we treat our neighbors with contempt, we will also be treated poorly. If we lift them up with humility, then we will also be lifted up. One doesn't need to read the bible to see this in action. God makes it quite plain, both in writing and in the daily chore of living, that this is so.
Question: Are you being oppressed or attacked in any way? What are you doing to change it? Are you acting like Moses, and going to God with your troubles, or are you acting like Pharaoh and using your trouble as an excuse to cause more trouble for others?
