"But Isaac said to his son, 'How did you ever find it so quickly, my son?' He replied, 'Because the Lord your God worked it out for me.'"
Genesis 27:20
Deceit, outright lies, and thievery. The worst part: Jacob claimed that the Lord "worked it out" for him. This was not the Lord's doing, but a selfish mother's doing. Rebekah wanted Isaac's blessing to go to her favorite son - the one who wasn't hairy and smelly. Now Jacob has stolen his brother Esau's inheritance as well as the blessing of their father.
It's hard to learn something from this passage because I'm so angry with Rebekah and Jacob. Why would God allow this blessing to commence? How could a mother be so cruel to her own son? How could a brother steal everything that belongs to his sibling? It's like Cain and Abel all over again - one son against another - only this time the mother is involved in the tragedy as well!
I guess this is one of the reasons why you should be more specific when you speak... Isaac said, "May God give to you..." when he should have said, "May God give to my son Esau..." It would have made sense to call a man by name when giving a blessing, just to relieve any doubt (of which there was much, because Isaac asked several times who he was talking to).
