Genesis 31

"He said to them, 'I can see from your father's face that his attitude toward me is not the same, but the God of my father has been with me.'"
Genesis 31:5

After twenty years working Laban's fields, Jacob decides that he's had enough.  God tells him to go back to the land of his fathers, so he confronts his wives about leaving their father.  They know that their father has been greedy, and that there is nothing left for them at his house, so they have no problem leaving with their husband.

This story saddens me because I'm so used to having in-laws who are kind, generous, and God-fearing.  I can't imagine what it would be like to have such a negative relationship with my wife's family.  I would never be able to ask my wife to leave her family behind and move elsewhere.

Unfortunately, not every husband has this blessing.  I guess the biggest thing I've learned from this passage today is that I have more to be thankful for than I ever think of.  What can I do today to show my loved-ones how much they have blessed me, and how much I appreciate all that they do?
