"I am unworthy of all the kindness and faithfulness You have shown Your servant. Indeed, I crossed over this Jordan with my staff and now I have become two camps."
Genesis 32:10
Jacob fears for his life and for the lives of his family because his older brother Esau is coming with many men to meet him on the road home. He remembers the unkindness that he bestowed on his brother in the past, which is the reason he had to flee from his home in the first place, for he had angered his brother to the point where murder was inevitable. Now, he's trying to appease his brother with gifts, and he wrestles with God for deliverance.
Jacob needs deliverance from his brother's malice, and God only grants His blessing after wrestling with him all night. I think that this picture of Jacob (now called Israel) wrestling with God through the whole night is a great image to describe the spiritual battle that takes place when we've sinned and need forgiveness. This is especially true when you see that God allowed the man to be victorious. Yet again, we see God having compassion for His undeserving people.
