Exodus 1

"A new king, who had not known Joseph, came to power in Egypt."
Exodus 1:8

This new king's words are a self-fulfilling prophecy.  He commands the Egyptians to enslave the Israelites because he is afraid that they will grow numerous, fight against them, and leave the country.  It's this very mistreatment which causes Israel's descendants to grow unruly.  This is a classic case of a man digging his own grave, so to speak.
