"'As you've said,' Moses Replied, 'I will never see your face again.'"
Exodus 10:29
Plagues 8 and 9 - the locusts and the darkness - have finished their devastation, yet Pharaoh still refuses to let the Israelites go. When Moses insists that his people's livestock be allowed to leave Egypt with them, Pharaoh threatens to kill Moses, saying, "Make sure you never see my face again." Moses agrees because he knows God has only one more plague left: the Passover.
After each plague, Pharaoh is a little bit more willing to let the Israelites go. After the locusts, he offers to let just the men go. After the darkness, he offers to let the people (but not their livestock) go. However, God is waiting so that ALL of his people and ALL of their livestock and ALL of their belongings may leave Egypt.
Pharaoh, who isn't even a believer, is trying to dictate who is and is not allowed to worship God. Moses has been requesting leave for his people to celebrate a festival unto God in the desert, but Pharaoh is trying to dictate who should be allowed to go. It's as if Pharaoh is telling Moses who is acceptable and who is not. Moses, though, knows that God wants ALL of His people to be there, making sacrifices and burnt offerings, eating, drinking, and being merry. He refuses to let this exodus out from Egypt be a less-than-complete journey.
Question: How often do you accept one person or a select group of people, but not all people? Are you willing to let God decide who is acceptable instead of trying to decide for yourself?
