"But the Lord replied to Moses, 'Now you are going to see what I will do to Pharaoh: he will let them go because of My strong hand; he will drive them out of his land because of My strong hand.'"
Exodus 6:1
Moses is having a difficult time believing that anybody will believe him when he shares what God has told him. Even God's own people, the Israelites, are skeptical because of their broken spirits and hard labor. Moses tells God that he's not a good enough speaker, but God says that it's His strong hand (not any spoken words) that will convince everyone that He is rescuing His people.
So often, we put God into a small box and ask Him to work in one certain way. The problem is that God is too big for that, and He has His own plan of action. Here, God knows that nobody will believe the words of Moses, so He has planned several signs, which will come later. Unfortunately, His servant Moses doesn't know this and is almost refusing to follow instructions because of how foolish he thinks he sounds.
The good news is that Moses tells God about these fears. He's completely open and honest before the Lord, and God understands. Yahweh hears Moses's distress and ensures him that he's got nothing to worry about.
Question: Is there something that God is asking you to do, but doing so makes you feel foolish? Do you trust God to pull through with His end of the bargain? What can you do to be more obedient and less concerned with how people will react to your calling?
