"When a foreigner lives with you in your land, you must not oppress him. You must regard the foreigner who lives with you as the native-born among you. You are to love him as yourself, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt; I am the Lord your God."
Leviticus 19:33-34
The Israelites knew all about how horrible it is to be mistreated by the natives while living in a foreign land. However, we have a natural tendency to inflict the same kinds of pain on others that we ourselves have been subjected to. God knows this about us, so He warns us against it.
Question of the Day:
What kinds of pain do you inflict on others without realizing it or without meaning to? What can you do to turn these situations around?
Prayer of the Day:
Convict me of any misdeeds that exist in my life. Help me to seek out ways to replace my hurtful conduct with helpful actions. Bring comfort to those who have been hurt by me, and help them come to forgive me. Help me to forgive those who have hurt me, just as You have forgiven me for hurting You. Amen.
