Leviticus 7

"If someone touches anything unclean, whether human uncleanness, an unclean animal, or any unclean, detestable creature, and eats meat from the Lord's fellowship sacrifice, that person must be cut off from his people."
Leviticus 7:21

The Israelites, and the Levitical Law, had a striking animosity towards all things "unclean."  It makes me wonder what it would have been like to live in their society.  Leviticus, for me, almost always brings up more questions than it answers...

Questions of the Day:
What would it have been like to live before modern medicine made it so easy to fight illnesses?  What precautions would be necessary in today's world if we didn't have easy access to antibiotics, fever reducers, pain relievers, and all the other medicinal remedies that we have today?  How differently would we view God's laws about cleanliness if we had lived in a time and place where even water was a precious commodity, where a daily bath was unthinkable and soap nonexistent?  What would doctors tell the Israelites if "plenty of clear fluids and rest" were completely out of the question?

Prayer of the Day:
Thank You for providing my family and me with such abundant sustenance and health.  Teach us to appreciate these gifts and keep them in perspective when we read about the plight of Your people as they fled from Egypt, through the wilderness.  Amen.
