"The Israelites did everything the Lord commanded Moses; they camped by their banners in this way and moved out the same way, each man by his clan and by his ancestral house."
Numbers 2:34
It's clear that Moses was the leader of the military in Israel. God spoke to him, and all the people followed his direction. In later chapters, we will see other military actions led by Moses, but here I wanted to focus on their first military action: defense.
We see sound judgement here in this chapter - defensive strategies that will not only protect the Tabernacle, but also keep the people organized. Israel was not the largest nation at this time, nor did they even have a land to call their home. They were nomadic, and were therefore easy targets for banditry. The Israelite army was always on high alert.
Question of the Day:
We live in a country where all of our wars are overseas... How would life be different if we actually felt threatened here at home, in our own "camps?"
Prayer of the Day:
Thank You for providing my family this safe haven we call home. Please help us to keep our nation safe by changing our leaders' hearts about foreign policies. Let peace be priority one for the US. Amen.
