Deuteronomy 8: A Humbling Test

"Remember that the Lord your God led you on the entire journey these 40 years in the wilderness, so that He might humble you and test you to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep His commands."
Deuteronomy 8:2

All of us go through this journey without even knowing it.  In the case of Israel, they were literally in the desert wilderness for 40 years, being led by a pillar of fire.  For me, it was a series of addictions throughout my teenage years.  Everyone's journey is different, but there is one constant.  Whether we know it or not, whether we believe it or not, whether we want it or not, the Lord is guiding us towards Himself.

The Lord humbles us by showing us our imperfections, but thankfully He also lifts us up by showing us His mercy and grace.  He allows us to take on His Spirit and become more with Him than we could ever be on our own.  With Him, we are royal, part of His eternal family and heirs to His Kingdom.  Without Him, we are only men, doomed to walk the earth in our time and then die.

Challenge of the Day:
Look back on your own humbling journey and see the glory of God - how He has guided you through your darkest hours.  Consciously seek out His guidance today, and see what greatness He has in store for His humble servant.

Prayer of the Day:
Lord, You have molded my form into something far better than what I could have (or would have) made for myself.  For that, I am eternally grateful.  Please continue to guide me, and stay with me to help me choose the right paths.  Keep me safe and healthy on the road towards the greatness You have in store for me.  Amen.
