Give Thanks

I know it's getting late, but I wanted to make a Thanksgiving post. My wife is helping our son in the bath, my grandmother is reading beside me on the couch, and I'm blogging on my iPod Touch. We've spent the last few days engorging ourselves on massive quantities of delicious noms, and plan to continue the tradition for another few days to come. But other than the tradition of eating with family and friends, what is Thanksgiving truly about?

Pilgrims came to this continent hundreds of years ago, searching for a place where they could worship the Lord the way they saw fit. When disease and lack of nutrition plagued them, the natives had the kindness to help them survive. Regardless of what followed, these are the two Reasons why Thanksgiving is a meaningful holiday in the USA: religious freedom and the goodness of neighbors.

If you're reading this, please join me in giving thanks for these aspects of our nation's history, as well as anything else you would like to give thanks for. You don't have to have an account to comment below.

I'll begin by saying that I'm thankful for the family God has blessed me with, and this chance to spend extra time enjoying their company. I'm thankful for my job, the wonderful students I'm blessed to be able to serve, and (as one of them said) "I'm thankful for toilets."

Question of the Day:
What are you thankful for?

  1. I'm thankful for an awesome wife who isn't ashamed of my goofy sense of humor, a son who smiles at me every morning and a God who has blessed me with all these wonderful things despite the fact that I did nothing to deserve it...
