Deuteronomy 9: What God's People Do Not Deserve

"You are not going to take possession of their land because of your righteousness or your integrity.  Instead, the Lord your God will drive out these nations before you because of their wickedness, in order to keep the promise He swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob."
Deuteronomy 9:5

This is just a snippet of Moses's tirade against the Israelites for their pig-headedness.  He is making it clear that the people do not deserve the blessings they are being given.  He reminds them of their wickedness in the wilderness, and the times when he had to intercede for them.  He reminds them of the mercy their Lord is showing by allowing them to take possession of the land promised to their ancestors.

I connect this deeply and directly to my relationship with Christ.  I know, and He knows, that I do not deserve the Salvation He offers.  He allows me to participate in His blessed Kingdom for the same reason He allows everyone else to take advantage of Him - His own love and compassion.  There is nothing I have done or can do to become worthy of His love.  He gives it freely to one and all.

Question of the Day:
In what ways do you allow the love of Christ to change your attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors?  Do you let it motivate you towards righteous living, or do you use it as an excuse for your inappropriate actions?

Prayer of the Day:
Lord, I need Your discipline in my life just as I need Your love.  Mold me into a man who reflects Your brilliance, and teach me to overcome temptations as You did in Your brief stay on this Earth.  Amen.
