Fruits of the Spirit - Faith

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control.  Against such things there is no law."
Galatians 5:22-23

"Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen."
Hebrews 11:1

Many argue about whether or not there is proof for God's existence, and often even about whether or not God should allow there to be proof of his existence.  I think the whole discussion is moot.  God proves Himself to us every day, but we're often too stubborn to admit it.  If we look at the world around us, if we look at the lives we live, if we look at our spirits within, we will see all the evidence that we ever need.  I think that faithfulness is accepting the truth of what is proven to be true.

So often we do not believe what is true simply because we've been taught a certain way and we stubbornly hold on to what we already "know" is true.  As a teacher, I see this nearly every day in my classroom: "Mr. Newquist, I can't draw!"  Of course you can... you've just been taught that your style of drawing isn't good, so you have stopped doing it.  A more well-known example of this is that everyone "knew" the earth was the center of the universe and that the world was flat, but then one brave sailor believed the truth he saw around him instead of the "truth" he had been taught all along - Columbus sailed to the EAST by travelling WEST!  How ridiculous is that!?

Prayer of the Day:
Open the eyes of my heart, Lord.  Show me Your truth in all that I see and do.  Never let me cling to falsehood, but prove the truth to me through faith.  Thank You for having faith in me, for believing in the truth that I am capable of being a better man, whether I think I can or not.  Amen.
