Genesis 39

"She grabbed him by his garment and said, 'Sleep with me!' But leaving his garment in her hand, he escaped and ran outside."
Genesis 39:12

Joseph was given charge of all of Pontiphar's household, and his master's wife continuously tried to seduce him.  1 Corinthians 6:18 begins by saying, "Flee from sexual immorality!"  This is what Joseph has done in relation to Pontiphar's wife.  When sexual immorality came a little too close for comfort, he literally ran away.

How many men are this persistent with our sexual purity?  How many of us could refuse sex every day when it's offered freely?  Be honest with yourself.  Whether you're married or not, ask yourself whether or not you'd give in to this woman's desires.  If you're a female, imagine it's a man instead.  How far would you go to flee this temptation?  Would you give in the first time?  The fifth time?  The hundredth time?  Would you give in the first time she tries to take your clothes off?

Would you be able to run away in order to save yourself?  The rest of the Corinthians verse mentioned above says, "'Every sin a person can commit is outside the body,' but the person who is sexually immoral sins against his own body."  Joseph rescued himself, along with Pontiphar and his wife, and their whole household, by running away.  Even though she lied about it, turned the story backwards, and ultimately caused Joseph to end up in prison, all of the people involved were saved from sexual immorality because of what Joseph was able to do.

It's hard to run away from sexual sin.  Especially for men, who have much more physically and physiologically based sex-drives than women, it's easy to get caught without even knowing it.  If you truly wish to be free from sexual sin - completely devoid of immorality - then you must start by recognizing it when you see it, and fleeing as fast as you can!
