"If someone sins and without knowing it violates any of the Lord's commands concerning anything prohibited, he bears the consequences of his guilt."
Leviticus 5:17
This chapter makes it clear that unintentional sin is every bit as horrible as intentional sin.
I think that, for me, the biggest lesson to be learned from this chapter is the importance of making things right once you realize you've made a mistake. Several times, this chapter refers to people who sin and then recognize it later.
All-too-often, we tell ourselves (and others) that what we've done was okay because we didn't know at the time how hurtful or wrong it was. However, it's helpful to think about it from the other person's perspective. If we find out that we accidentally hurt someone's feelings, and we do nothing to rectify the situation, then their feelings remain hurt. In the same way, if we sin without knowing it, the sin still hurts God's feelings.
Question of the Day:
Have you ever hurt anyone or sinned and then found out about it later? What steps are you taking to rectify these situation(s)?
Prayer of the Day:
Father, forgive me for I know not what I do. I do not want to hurt You or be separated from You in any way. Draw me close to You, and never let me go. Tell me what I need to do to make our relationship right and whole again. Amen.
