"So Samuel told him everything and did not hide anything from him. Eli responded, 'He is the Lord. He will do what He thinks is good.'"
1 Samuel 3:18
Even when faced with the promise of destruction and punishment, Eli recognizes that the Lord is right and just, that the Lord is good.
Question of the Day:
Is there a point at which you end up disagreeing with the Lord, or thinking that He's wrong to do something or treat certain behaviors with such contempt? Is it something that you have done, and you don't want to admit you're wrong? Is it something that others do, but you can't see why God thinks it's wrong?
When I am stuck in this kind of rut, I find it helpful to be still and remember that God created us. This means many things. He knows every last detail about us, including what is best for us. He loves us as His own offspring and desires what is best for us. He has specific plans for our lives, and those plans are based on our individual needs as well as the needs of all the people we will encounter throughout our lives.
Remember - if God Himself says something is wrong, He knows what He's talking about, He's always right, and He's always good.
Prayer of the Day:
Lord, teach me Your ways so that I may not be deserving of the fate of Eli's family. Help me to obey Your commandments and teach them to my son (and any future children) so that my family may bring glory to Your name all our days. Amen.
