"Then the king ordered the guards standing by him, 'Turn and kill the priests of the Lord because they sided with David. For they knew he was fleeing, but they didn't tell me.' But the king's servants would not lift a hand to execute the priests of the Lord."
1 Samuel 22:17
King Saul brings the priest Ahimelech in for questioning concerning the sustenance and sword which he provided for David. He orders his men to kill the priests, but they refuse. Only one of the king's servants, Doeg the Edomite, who witnessed the priest giving David assistance, was willing to obey such a cruel command. Doeg slaughtered all but one of the priests, along with the whole city of Nob where the priests had lived and given aid to David.
The one remaining son flees to David, who takes credit for the slaughter of Nob, saying that he knew Doeg had witnessed the incident in question. He knows that the death of the priests was caused by his own lack of honesty when he begged them for sustenance.
Question of the Day:
Have you ever seen the outcome of your lies or deception and been willing to admit that the destruction caused was your own fault?
Prayer of the Day:
Lord, direct me away from lies and deceit, for nothing good comes from them. Keep me honest, open, and pure in my thoughts and deeds. Expose me for all to see my true nature so that You may rid me of it and replace it with Your Spirit. Amen.
