"All fat belongs to the Lord. This is a permanent statute throughout your generations, wherever you live: you must not eat any fat or any blood."
Leviticus 3:16b-17
Well, I must say that I'm guilty. I know that, in the new testament, God lay down a blanket of food which included "unclean" animals, and He told us that it's okay to eat because He's made everything clean. However, this "permanent statute" does not appear to be linked with the whole cleanliness issue...
God orders that fat and blood are His and His alone. This means that all of our steaks should be cooked to well-done and have all of the fat trimmed off before we even cook them! I wonder how much weight I would lose if I followed a biblical diet.
Whether or not we consider ourselves to be part of the nation of Israelites whose future generations are suspect to this law, I think it's wise to analyze our dietary practices from a Heavenly perspective. I know for a fact that I have embraced the sin of gluttony, and that my obesity prevents me from worshiping the Lord to my fullest capacity. I know that I'm not alone in this capacity. I know that I need divine intervention if I'm ever going to break the bad-habit cycle of eating in which I've placed myself.
Question of the Day:
Does your diet glorify the Lord? What is one small change that you could make today and keep forever that would positively impact your food consumption? What will your next step be after that? Plan ahead and try one step per week or month, and see if you can change your habits for the better.
Prayer of the Day:
Strengthen my will against bad eating habits, and help me to work out a step-by-step plan for overcoming my gluttony. More-to-the-point, help me to follow through with said plan, and give me the resolve to see it through to the end. Amen.
