1 Samuel 8: If You Truly Love Someone...

"When they said, 'Give us a king to judge us,' Samuel considered their demand sinful, so he prayed to the Lord.  But the Lord told him, 'Listen to the people and everything they say to you.  They have not rejected you; they have rejected Me as their king.'"
1 Samuel 8:6-7

The people of Israel beg Samuel to appoint a king over them.  The Lord, in the midst of this passionate rejection of His royalty, follows the age-old rule (which He actually created) - if you truly love someone, set them free.  He gives His people exactly what they think they want - exactly what they ask for, even after explaining all the reasons why it will be a horrible idea.

Question of the Day:
Have you ever tried to explain to someone you loved all the reasons why they should stay with you?  Have you ever had someone else do the same to you?  From both sides, it's quite an awkward situation...  Have you ever witnessed this happen, in your own life or someone else's, where true love ended up bringing the jilted pair back together?

Prayer of the Day:
Lord, You are my King - my One and Only, the Rock of my Salvation.  I give fealty to You and swear myself into Your service.  Mold me and use me as You see fit, for I have seen the folly of my flight away from Your security, and true Love has brought us back together.  Keep me ever mindful of this lesson so that I do not choose to flee from Your statutes ever again, but stay within Your plan for my life.  Amen.
